Mouldings, moldings, or trim, whatever you call it, our mouldings will complete the look of almost any space. While our family business has evolved from just making mouldings to our wholesale market to just one of the many materials and services we offer to our retail customers, they are still the foundation of what we do here at Distinctive.

We’ve been in the business of making wood mouldings for almost 40 years. Our plant in Blaketown, NL produces thousands of feet of mouldings a year.

If one of our many profiles doesn’t quite suite your look or match that trim you’re attempting to restore, we can most likely create one that does. Learn more about our Custom Mouldings.

More recently we have started carrying MDF (medium density fiber) in a huge variety of profiles to allow our customers a more economical option.

Compare Products

Our customers are often convinced that all mouldings and trim are created equally, especially when it all looks the same when it’s installed and painted. MDF and Pine Mouldings are not created equally.

The most economical choice is MDF, which is often half the price of finger-jointed pine, but it doesn’t stand up to pine on durability and sustainability factors.

If you’re looking for a more rustic option, we offer our moulding profiles in solid pine which is made from premium pine with solid knots.

While we do not recommend painting over knots, as they are almost sure to bleed through at some point, this is an ideal product for stains and clear coat finishes.

Custom Mouldings

Trying to match the trim profiles of a historic home? Are you looking for a look that’s yours and yours only? Building a boat and would like our trim in mahogany? Or are you adding a sunroom and need some cedar?

We make all our mouldings at our plant in Blaketown, NL and have the ability to create our own profiles allowing us to customize exactly to your needs.

HOW WE DO IT

Our custom mouldings are typically made from high quality paint grade finger-jointed pine.

However, other wood species are also available to order, such as solid pine, birch, oak, mahogany, walnut, just to name a few. Our attention to fine detail and design gives you the quality product you need for your space.

With a sample of your trim, our experienced technicians will create a template and blades to match your profile.

We will change the shape of wood by taking a rough piece of lumber and create a beautiful solid wood mouldings as it passes through our moulders.

ARCHED CASING

Circular and elliptical arches are a beautiful addition to any home with arched doorways and windows.

Our radius arches come in a variety of styles and sizes and are custom made to your specifications.

HOW THEY’RE MADE

The most economical product to use for a paint grade casing is MDF. Otherwise, we can use pine, and other species to match your existing casing and style.

Our carpenters use small strips of wood or MDF and bend it around a template of your arch to create the perfect match.

Once glued and set the arch is sent through a profiler to create the design to match your casing.

If you’re using one of our casings, we will have our blades ready to match your trim profile; otherwise we can cut new blades to your unique moulding.

Other things to keep in mind when ordering your arch are that we are limited to making arches 8 feet and under.

To case rounded windows with a diameter over 8 feet, a keystone in the middle makes the perfect accent, while eliminating unwanted joins.

Another thing to consider is when ordering trims for full circle windows, the arches will come in two pieces that will have to be cut and joined on-site.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

To create your unique arched moulding, we will need a template of your window.

Please follow the instructions laid out in the diagram below.

For semi-circle or arc opening, we will simply need the measurement of the height at the center of the opening and the measurement along the bottom where the arch starts.

If you have an oblong oval or ellipse opening, we will need you, or your contractor, to make and provide a template. Most people will trace the shape out on cardboard or some other large surface.

Either way, be sure to take the inner most measurements of the opening.

For a window, for instance, the measurement should be taken inside the furring slot, as shown in the diagrams.

When in doubt of what type of arch you have, it’s always safe to make us a template.
